Six Flags Opens Goliath, a Record-Breaking New Roller Coaster

ABC US News | ABC Celebrity News
Roller Coaster enthusiasts were quaking with anticipation Thursday morning as Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, officially opened Goliath, a triple record-breaking coaster.
Brave souls who dare to try out the fastest, tallest, and steepest wooden roller coaster in the world can expect to plunge down 180 feet while rocketing through twists and turns at 72 miles per hour at a near vertical 85 degree angle.

After nine months of construction, including a delay in the originally planned May 31 debut, the park was set to open Goliath to the public. “I think everyone here is just so excited and there’s a lot of anticipation before we open our gates,” said Six Flags spokesperson Katy Enrique just an hour before the opening.
Rocky Mountain Construction, the company behind the planning and building of Goliath, used an innovative track system on the wooden coaster to make it less rickety. “It’s very smooth,” says Enrique, who has already ridden the ride over 20 times. ABC7 Chicago Reporter Jessica D’Onofrio, who attended a special preview Wednesday, agrees, saying Goliath was “[the] smoothest ride of any coaster I have been on.”

The initial rider reviews indicate the new coaster will live up to the hype. “It was definitely a great adrenaline rush,” says D’Onofrio of her experience. “It has a ton of thrills, it’s just element after element,” added Enrique.
Goliath is the latest record breaker in Six Flags' long history of innovative coasters. “We’re always looking for rides that spark innovative new concepts in the roller coaster world,” says Enrique, “we’re constantly looking for concepts out there that will keep us as the leader of roller coaster innovation.”
(Editor's note: This story was updated to reflect that it's the fastest, tallest and steepest wooden roller coaster.)

NASA Rover Discovers Life on Mars?

While making the rounds this afternoon a ran across an article that suggested that NASA had found life on Mars. An amazing discovery right? Well maybe not. FYI…. I love Scott’s website and I’m not trying to undermine his work or contribution. I just thought his story was good and wanted to share it with our readers along with my thoughts.
This from UFO Sighting Daily:
Now of course NASA tries to downplay the fact that this is alien life, although it is seen moving and then disappears. Only NASA has the video of it moving across the sand…which they refuse to release, but have released a Gif of an ear moving at the original link below. You can clearly see its tiny legs touching the sand in the enlarged photo of the object. NASA is controlled by the US Government exclusively when it comes to announcements to the public. Of course they make an excuse and say its part of the rover landing gear, uh…like we were born yesterday. Why hide the existence of life? To put the USA ahead in the race for alien technology. This is their words below. SCW

NASA States: What Is It?
Like a rabbit in a hat, the identity of an oddity that looks like “bunny ears” in a picture from Mars has eluded the science and engineering teams. The public, also fascinated with the mysterious object, has asked in a slew of e-mails: What is it?
It is a yellowish object measuring about 4 to 5 centimeters (about 2 inches) long that made its debut when Opportunity’s eyes welcomed Earth to a new neighborhood on Mars in her mission success panoramic image. Meridiani Planum is a landscape unlike any other stop on our decades-long tour of the red planet. Still, it wasn’t the conspicuous bedrock outcropping near the horizon that initially fascinated many people. It was the “bunny ears.”

The ultimate video proof was offered by NASA of the actual movement of the “bunny ears” in a video created by .gif images. The video seems to show an ear moving. Does it?
After watching the video one time I could plainly see that the photos were shadowed to make it appear that the ear was moving. The shadow on the martian surface never changes with the movement of the ear.
NASA seems to have explained the object as part of the rover. I don’t know if I buy thier tale or not, but the object being there is pretty cool nonetheless.

The Enigma of Reincarnation

Many people, was have looked and developed their greater awareness of the ‘Purpose of Life’. For those who seek, there is an acceptance of evidence that consciousness survives, and exists, beyond the point of physical death, and continues, in another realm of existence.  However, in ‘Western Civilisation’, there is an enigma, or mystery, regarding the continuity of life, or the process of reincarnation.  Outside of organised ‘Western’beliefs, or religions, most people accept survival of the ‘Soul’, and believe in reincarnation. On the other hand; as is always the case, there is a fair percentage, which flatly rejects the thought, of such a thing happening.
Over many years spirit communication, has stated that reincarnation is a natural fact and occurrence. Moreover, compelling evidence to support reincarnation has come to us through many credible researchers, such as Dr. Ian Stevenson (Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation) and Dr. Brian Weiss (Many Lives, Many Masters).
On the other hand; intriguing books, have added further, to the process of reincarnation, and how most people, think and comprehend it to be.  Teachings have shown that; “reincarnation, as it is usually understood, does not really happen,” the spirit of the great Composer Franz Liszt said: “The truth is subtly different from the teachings of a reincarnationist on earth.”  The spiritual teaching’s of ‘Silver Birch’ also mentions that; reincarnation is the exception, rather than the rule.
Of course, everything is for the comprehension of the individual.  For a balanced perspective, you need to be able to grasp within their own thoughts, about any subject, and account for opposing views, on any given subject. Perhaps, it is best for those who seek, to gain a counterbalance, giving the individual, opportunity, to draw their own conclusions, and to look, and assimilate other points of view.  In the words, of an edition of the text; “A Course in Miracles”, by Kenneth Wapnick, It says; “In the ultimate sense, reincarnation is impossible.  There is no past, or future, and the idea of rebirth into a body, has no meaning either once, or many times”.  All the same; there is strong evidence for reincarnation.  Conflict; can easily lead one, to reject all revelation’s coming to us through mediums, or people, who’ve had a near-death experience, and investigators, who delve into past-life studies.
One simple explanation is; we do not become all-knowing, once we move from this world.  For those who reside in the next realm, it is a place, where the residents (Spirits) are in most cases, in lower-spheres of life.  For some, who still hang onto earthly gains, they think and believe as they did, when still in this ‘World of Matter and Earth’. There is a lot of misguided confusion; about the next sphere, or realm of existence, which is often referred to as the ‘Summerland’.  Unenlightened souls are drawn to the practices of their old religious dogmas, and the doctrines practiced on earth, with their beliefs remaining unchanged.  If they didn’t believe in reincarnation, they continue to disbelieve, if they believed in reincarnation, they continue to believe in it. It is all a matter of illumination and progression of the individual soul, as it moves through the attunement of its divine purpose of discovery and spiritual awareness.
Most spirit communication; is in general from the ‘lower spheres’ because the spirits communicator, is closer in vibration, to those of us, on the earth plane.  The more one advances in the ‘World of Light’, the more difficult it is, for communication, owing to the difference, in vibrational frequency.  This is exemplified, through the more highly advanced protagonist, or more spiritually aligned and attuned.
One of the most credible mediums of the late 19th Century, William Stainton Moses, asked his ‘Spiritual Guide’, about reincarnation. He was told; only the most advanced spiritual intelligences are able to converse, on this subject, and it is only given to those, who have attained a high awareness, of spiritual interaction.  He was cautioned: “There are still mysteries, into which it is not well, that man should penetrate”.
One such mystery; is the ultimate development and destiny of spirits.  Whether in the eternal counsel of the ‘Supreme’, it may be deemed well, that a particular spirit should, or should not be, again incarnated in a material form, is a question than none can answer, for no one, can know, not even the ‘spirit’s own guides’.  There are other aspects of the question which, in the exercise of discretion, is withheld; the time is not yet come for certain knowledge to be given.  Spiritual entities; cannot be expected to know all complex mysteries, and those who profess to do so, give the best proof of their inaccuracy.
Spiritual entities; on high vibrational sphere’s of understanding, realise it is necessary, to relay messages to various spiritual people, because of the difference in vibration.  Another possible explanation is one of definition or semantics. When you ascend upon a higher spiritual scale, there is more recognition of reincarnation.  In simple terms logic applies, the next dimension, and the movement between is not illogical, everything fits a plan, and nothing is by chance, when ones grasps a wider perspective of live itself.
Individual and Wider Purpose of the Soul
Many great spiritual teachers; have described the individuality of the earthly personality, and the small part it plays, within the collective consciousness, of greater purpose.  Singularly, one is likened to a bright diamond, shining and casting light out into all directions, with its own facets, distinguishing one’s personality on earth.
The individual is only an element, of a far greater diamond, represented within a collective point of light. In the same way, what we all express and convey on earth, are a minuscule part of the collective, to which we all belong.  As a result; personality is one of the faculties of the ‘individual soul’, and we are all fraction of a greater ‘Group Soul’ a unity, with wider reaching facets of spiritual interconnections and relationships, all for the purpose of, incarnation at different times, and places within the infinite.
All things are logical, for the purpose of providing the ‘Greater Soul’ with purpose and reason, within its unfoldement and divine purpose. An analogy; is to liken the ‘Soul’ to an ‘Iceberg’ where one small portion, visually revealed and the greater portion hidden, as if not manifesting.  This is reference, to what is sometimes described as, the ‘Higher or Greater Self’. This gives too many, a complication; like trying to explain the colour of the sky, to someone, who has been blind from birth.
It has been stated that to understand psychic or spiritual evolution, the‘Group-Soul’ must be studied and understood.  For instance, it explains many of the difficulties, which people say, can only be removed, by the doctrine of preconceived views about reincarnation. This may appear a frivolous assertion, but the fact is, we do appear on earth, to be paying for the sins of another life, in a certain sense, this is true.  It is our life, and yet not, our life.  In other words, a soul belonging to a group, is a part lived from a previous life, which builds up the framework of earthly life, which has been lived in, before passing through the entry of birth.
Further explained is that the ‘Group Soul’ contains countless other souls. The numbers vary, from individual, to individual.  What the Buddhist would call ‘Karma’ is brought from a previous life, is very frequently, not that of my life, but of the life of a soul that has proceeded, by many earthly years. Now what is left is an outline, which made a person’s life, and has woven a pattern for others of its group, during it own earthly occupation.
Again, the soul is likened to an onlooker, caught within the spell of some drama which is being played, outside of its actual life. The soul will then perceive all the consequences of acts, moods, and thoughts of a kindred soul.  There are an infinite variety of conditions in the invisible world, which makes no claim to being perfect. There is a general rule; based on what he had learned and experienced in the next dimension.
In 1918, it was recorded, that ‘Johannes of Glastonbury’, a Monk, who had lived from 1497 to 1533, communicated by means of ‘Automatic Writing’, a number of messages to, Frederick Bligh Bond, the Director of excavations, at Glastonbury Abbey. The messages were concerning the layout of the ‘Abbey Grounds’ in his day.  Indirectly, Johannes mentioned; a ‘Group Soul’, when it was suggested, by another spirit individual, that Johannes might be “Earthbound” and his recall coloured to some extent by; “clinging onto vanished dreams”.  In broken English Johannes replied:  “Why cling to that which is not?  It is I, and it is not I, but part of me, which dwells in the past, is bound to that which my carnal soul loved, called home, these many years. Yet, I, Johannes, am of many parts, and better part doeth other things –only that part which remembers, clings like memory to what it sees”...
Other sources of information; provide a wider perception, into the subject of reincarnation. It says; previous incarnation, is a part of a debt owed, a kind of karmic debt, or recompense for wrongs inflicted.  This in part is true, those souls who are attracted to us, are part of ourselves, belonging to the same ‘Group’, or ‘Spiritual family’, held within a ‘Group Soul’.  Their connection with us; is deeper and far more permanent than mere earthly contacts, could ever make it.  They may be part of the same ‘Spirit as that Spirit’ is itself part of the‘Great Spirit’, the great ‘Company of Divinity’, that moves and operates far beyond our limited comprehension.
Reincarnation Terrestrial or Celestial
In the1939 Book; “Reincarnation for Everyman”, by Shaw Desmond expresses, there are two approaches to reincarnation, the ‘Terrestrial and the ‘Celestial’.  The earlier view; has the individual, returning again and again, as the same person, while the latter view, has the person ‘solely as spirit’, in their temporary home, within the ‘Physical Body’ a tiny projection, of the Greater Self.
As a result; it may be that those mystics and spirits, who have rejected reincarnation, were rejecting it, in the terrestrial sense, but not in the celestial.  Think of an atom; it is made up of protons and neutrons, which all go to make up the nucleus surrounded by electrons.  That is what a soul is like.  These separate parts; held together in the nucleus, but the parts can be isolated.  It is the isolated parts; of the nucleus of the soul, so to speak, which can manifest, as various personalities in this world.  These are what the reincarnationalist calls different incarnations – but they all belong to one soul which can choose which particular part of the soul it wishes to manifest.
On a personal note; I am contented to view reincarnation, as I grasp the greatness of infinity, way beyond my own personal comprehension.  I am satisfied to know and understand that our consciousness survives beyond the point of physical death and lives on in a world of spiritual light, compassion and harmony, which moves beyond what we term as the infinite…
Footnote
The purpose of the document is simple; to allow people to look at the whole subject of ‘Reincarnation’, and to make up their own minds and judgement. The words are not within  the realms of any doctrine, and or, any religious persuasion, more as a simple point of reference for the individual and to give an account of some views, with a counterbalance to provide a logical stream of  ‘spiritual thought

Plymouth: From Where The Pilgrim Fathers Sailed...

Plymouth: From Where The Pilgrim Fathers Sailed And Sir Francis Drake Played Bowls

Smeaton's Tower, Lighthouse, Plymouth

We strayed from Cornwall yesterday as we had to visit Plymouth in Devon. It wasn't a particularly nice day weather-wise but I took a few photos for the blog because Plymouth is known as the place from which the Mayflower headed for North America in 1620 and is also where Sir Francis Drake supposedly played bowls before defeating the Spanish Armada in 1588.

The first landmark on the waterfront is on Plymouth Hoe and is Smeaton's Tower (photos above and below), which was built in 1759 as a lighthouse on rocks 14 miles (23 km) off shore - but was dismantled and rebuilt on the Hoe in 1877. It was here, on the Hoe, where Francis Drake played his bowls.Wikipedia describes this:

"The most famous (but probably apocryphal) anecdote about Drake relates that, prior to the battle, he was playing a game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe. On being warned of the approach of the Spanish fleet, Drake is said to have remarked that there was plenty of time to finish the game and still beat the Spaniards."

Lighthouse, Plymouth, Devon

Walking along the waterfront you eventually reach the Barbican and it is from here that the Mayflower made it's way to North America in 1620. The building below commemorates this, along with the USA flag, and is known as the Mayflower Steps.

Mayflower Steps, Plymouth

The date of the event is etched into the stones by the Mayflower Steps (photo below). There is a plaque on the sea wall which reads:

"On the 6th of September 1620, the Mayorality of Thomas Townes after being kindly entertained and courteously used by divers Friends there dwelling, the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from Plymouth in the Mayflower in the Providence of God to settle in New Plymouth and to lay the foundations of the New England States The ancient Cawsey whence they embarked was destroyed not many Years afterwards but the Site of their Embarkation is marked by the Stone bearing the name of the MAYFLOWER in the pavement of the adjacent Pier."

Mayflower 1620, Plymouth, England

The sea wall has numerous plaques. The one below, for example, states: 'City of Plymouth. This tablet commemorates the departure from Plymouth in May 1839 of the Tory, the pioneer ship in the colonisation of New Zealand.'

Another plaque also tells of Walter Raleigh's involvement with Virginia in the late 1500s. It reads:

'The Roanoke Colonies. From Plymouth on 7th April 1584 Walter Raleigh sent Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlow to North America to explore & prepare for English colonisation. On 13th July they claimed land in the name of Queen Elizabeth called Virginia in her honour.'

There  are many historical naval connections with Plymouth where the tourists visit. But away from this area, like with many big cities - a population of 250,000 people, making it the 27th most populous built-up area in England and Wales - there are also problems. From the car park we used I took this photo of a man being handcuffed and searched by police.

Man

According to Wikipedia: "Plymouth Council is currently undertaking a project of urban redevelopment called the 'Vision for Plymouth' launched by the architect David Mackay and backed by both Plymouth City Council and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce (PCC). Its projects range from shopping centres, a cruise terminal, a boulevard and to increase the population to 300,000 and build 33,000 dwellings."

~~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~
People on the Mayflower 1620
By some strange syncro I came across the flollowing article in the Seattle Times:
“William S. Fuller followed the news with interest this week when detectives announced a strange lead in the search for a man who killed his friend’s daughter two decades ago.
According to a new DNA analysis, the unknown suspect is a distant relative of Edward and Samuel Fuller, who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower in 1620 – and he might even share their last name.
The present-day Fuller says that’s just an awkward coincidence.
The 68-year-old worked with the father of 16-year-old Sarah Yarborough, who was raped and strangled in Federal Way in 1991. He spearheaded the effort to build a memorial for her.
Fuller said he doesn’t know if he’s related to the Pilgrims, but he is certain that no one in his family could be the culprit.”
One of the photos I snapped while in Plymouth was a list of the Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620. The names of Edward and Samuel Fuller are amongst them – towards the end of the list.
Israeli wine exports are expected to hit the $30 million mark this year!
L'Chaim - To Life
Wineries have opened in almost every part of Israel over the past decade and many of them are producing world-class wine.By Gail Barzilay and Heidi J. Gleit
Extracted from ERETZ Magazine, Culinary Travel: The Israel Food Scene 2010
Much ink has been spilled in attempts to describe the revolution in wine making in Israel and to sing its praises. Israeli wine exports are expected to hit the $30 million mark this year, up from $22 million in 2009, and in each edition of Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book, an increasing number of Israeli wineries are being cited. Today Israel is home to hundreds of wineries, ranging from family-run vineyards that produce a few thousand bottles a year to large companies that produce millions of bottles annually. Some have opened recently, while others trace their roots back to the late 1800s. Below are the stories of some of the lesser-known wineries.
Agur Winery
Shuki Yashuv’s love for the charm and mystery of wine has guided the making of his sophisticated wines, which have been awarded high ratings around the world for over a decade. “It’s all about sensual intelligence,” he says, eschewing the snobbery of the wine world and declaring that his goal is simply “to make the best possible wine that we and the land can produce together.”
His winery produces four blends – blanca, rose, kessem, and special reserve – from grapes grown in the Judean Mountains. The grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately before being blended.
“The unique characteristics of each plot of land affect the flavor of the grapes and the wine produced from them. It takes generations to understand and know and contain the special taste of each plot,” Yashuv says.
“There’s a symbiotic relationship between a wine grower and the surrounding community.” Yashuv hosts wine tasting sessions overlooking a view of the Judean Hills and his vineyards. (By appointment only.)
Ella Valley Winery
The Ella Valley was known throughout the ancient world not only for the famous battle fought there between David and Goliath but also for the excellent wines it produced. The Ella Valley Winery was founded in 1998 to revive this tradition. The winery’s general manager Danny Valero carefully selected the location for each of its three vineyards, analyzing the soil and climatic conditions, using modern technology. While planting the first of these vineyards, workers discovered a winepress from the Second Temple period, confirming Valero’s faith in the location.
The winery has gained a worldwide reputation for the quality of its wine. Some 40% of the 300,000 bottles of wine it produces annually are exported to the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, and Japan.
Reservations must be made in advance to visit the winery for a tasting session. Tours are also offered to groups of 10 or more. Wine can be purchased on the premises as well as shipped to clients abroad.
Hans Sternbach Winery
The Hans Sternbach Winery at Moshav Giv’at-Yesha’yahu specializes in both producing excellent wine and in agricultural tourism, explains Emmanuel Mador, who operates the winery with his partners Gadi and Shula Sternbach. Gadi leads tours of the winery, its vineyards, and the surrounding area as well as wine-tasting workshops.
In addition, the winery’s restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine featuring eggs from Moshav Giv’at-Yesha’yahu, vegetables from the Sternbachs’ organic garden, and entrees prepared using its wines. In good weather, meals are served outdoors in a pavilion shaded by grapevines with a dramatic view of the surrounding mountains. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch on Fridays and Saturdays and can host groups of 10 or more at other times as well. (Call in advance to arrange a visit.)
The concept of terroir is central to the winery. The wines are named after geographical features – Janaba Reserve is named after the vineyard’s location, in the Hakhlil Valley. “We believe that the quality of the grapes from this area is unique,” Mador says.
Rimon Winery
Named after the fruit used to produce most of its wine: the pomegranate. In 2002, after hearing about the health benefits of pomegranates, Gabi Nachmias decided to try to make wine from pomegranates in his orchards at Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra, which he began to produce commercially in 2004.
Today his Rimon Winery produces more than one million bottles of dry wines, dessert wines, sparkling wine, and port per year and is recognized for its excellence around the world. The pomegranate flavor is most noticeable in the dessert wine, which is 15% alcohol.
The process of growing pomegranates is similar to that of grapes, but it takes longer for them to ripen, explains Nachmias, whose background is in agriculture. Pomegranates usually are ripe enough to harvest in September or October. The seeds are separated from the skin with a specially designed machine that cuts each fruit into the shape of a star.
The white seeds are made into pomegranate oil, while the red seeds are used to produce wines and juice. The wine is actually considered healthier since it has a greater concentration of anti-oxidants than the juice. They are sold not only in Israel, but also in Japan, Australia, the U.S., and England. The winery also hosts tastings and tours of its facilities and the surrounding area. (Advance reservations required.)
The Rimon Winery also produces two award-winning grape wines under the brand name 72, which is a reference to the 72 kabbalistic names of God. The winery is located in the heartland of Kabbalah – near Safed, Meron, Or Haganuz, and the tomb of Rabbi Bar Yohai.
Galil Mountain Winery
The Golan Heights Winery and Kibbutz Yir’on together established the Galil Mountain Winery in 2000. Located at Kibbutz Yir’on, near the Lebanese border, it produces one million bottles of dry wines (90% red and 10% white) annually, making it Israel’s seventh largest wine producer. About a quarter of its wine is exported to the U.S., Canada, Asia, and Europe.
The winery has six vineyards near the kibbutz in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, each with different topographical and climatic conditions that allow them to grow a large variety of grapes. The winery itself was designed to provide a comprehensive and holistic tourism experience integrating agriculture, tourism, and industry. Its visitors’ center offers tours, workshops, and tastings in English, Hebrew, and Russian (advance reservations recommended).
Yiftah’el Winery
Yiftah’el Winery, in the village of Allon Hagalil, is not just a winery. It is part of a farm that Tzvika and Hadas Ofir founded in 1985 that includes beehives, vineyards, a visitors’ center, and more. The award-winning winery is relatively small, producing about 10,000 bottles per year from the five types of grapes grown in the farm’s fields.
The farm specializes in making honey from wildflowers, citrus, and clover, producing nine types of honey. The visitors’ center includes a special room for honey tastings.
The visitors’ center itself is an attraction since it is located in a log cabin that was originally built in the 1840s in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. Allen Radley, a Jewish farmer who was originally from New York and settled in West Virginia, acquired the cabin, dismantled it, shipped the pieces to Israel, and rebuilt it in the Galilee. The visitors’ center houses a store that sells the farms’ products and a resource center on wine and honey.
Tishbi Estate Winery
Jonathan Tishbi, whose family has been planting and tending vineyards in the Land of Israel since 1882, established the Tishbi Estate Winery, originally known as the Baron Estate Winery, in 1984. The winery’s vineyards are located all over the country, from the Negev and the Judean Hills to the Carmel Mountains, the Upper Galilee, and the Golan Heights. They produce one million bottles of wine a year that are sold in 25 countries. In addition to being kosher, the wines are vegan since neither gelatin nor albumin are used to produce them. Many of the wines, including the sparkling wines and brandy, have won awards.
The estate also produces fruit and wine jams, which are sold at the visitors’ center along with wine and related accessories. The visitors’ center has a dairy restaurant that serves homemade sourdough breads and pizzas as well as cheese from local dairies. The visitors’ center offers tours of the winery and can host events for up to 100 guests. The latest addition to the facility is an exclusive tasting room for wine and chocolate.
